Every child deserves to understand how money works — before they're expected to manage their own future.

Every child learns to read. Every child learns math. But almost none of them learn how money actually works — the fundamental tool that puts food on the table, a roof over our heads, and is the means to engineer the future we desire. They don't learn how money evolved, how the systems around it are changing, and how to make it work for them.

That's the gap Your Hive exists to close. Not just for the children who are lucky enough to grow up in financially savvy households, but for every child in every family — because financial curiosity should not be a privilege.

OUR VISION

A world where every child understands the money systems they live inside — growing financially curious in elementary school, financially aware in middle school, and financially ready to shape their own future in high school.

OUR MISSION

Your Hive ignites financial curiosity in elementary-age children, deepens financial awareness in middle schoolers, and builds financial readiness in high schoolers — through hands-on camps, deep-dive classes, and a real-world certification program.

A progression designed to grow with your child.

Financial education doesn't happen in a week. It builds over years, through experiences that meet children where they are developmentally and give them progressively more to work with. Your Hive is designed around that journey from the very beginning.

Money has always changed. The children who understand why will be ready for what's next.

We are living through one of the most significant shifts in financial systems in modern history. But this isn't the first time.

Money started as barter — goods exchanged directly for goods. Then came coins, a shared symbol of value. Paper currency. Digital banking. Smartphones. Each shift felt radical at the time. Each one followed the same underlying logic: money is a system built on collective trust, and the form it takes changes as society changes.

We are in another such moment. Cryptocurrency is decentralising trust. AI is personalising financial advice and making financial complexity accessible to anyone with a phone. These are not disruptions — they are the next chapter of a story that started thousands of years ago.

"Children who understand how money systems work — not just the rules of today's system, but the logic behind all of them — will not be confused by what comes next. They will recognise it."

The core belief behind every Your Hive program

And there is one more reason why now matters: artificial intelligence.

AI will soon put extraordinary financial knowledge at everyone's fingertips. In a world where answers are free and instant, the most valuable skill is no longer memorising facts — it is knowing which questions to ask.

That capacity is built in childhood. It does not arrive automatically in adulthood. The families who start building it now are giving their children something that no app or algorithm can replace: genuine financial fluency.

Financial literacy is as foundational as reading, science, or music.

I came from a humble background, with limited exposure to the world of finance. I spent over a decade working within it — investing in companies, evaluating funds, learning how capital flows. And throughout all of it, I kept coming back to the same uncomfortable thought: the people who understand these systems have an enormous advantage over those who don't. Not a small advantage. A life-shaping one.

Then I became a parent. And I watched my own children grow up curious, creative, endlessly enthusiastic about learning — and completely unequipped to understand the very systems that would govern so much of their adult lives. Schools didn't teach it. Curricula didn't include it.

I started Your Hive because I believe that gap is fixable — and that the best time to fix it is early. When they still think learning is an adventure, when their brains are most receptive to building the mental models that will last a lifetime, and when a single week of genuine engagement can spark a curiosity that doesn't go out.

That is what Your Hive is building. Not financially obedient children. Financially curious, aware, and ready ones.

I hope your family joins us.

Uma Sekar

Uma Sekar spent more than a decade investing in companies and venture funds before asking a question that changed her career: why do so few children ever learn how any of this works?

Uma grew up in a middle-class household, raised by hard-working parents who navigated their own financial difficulties with great courage and candor. Money was an open topic at her family's table, and she and her sister learned early to make careful choices — values she still carries. Yet, this scarcity mindset, while valuable, didn't teach her how money systems actually work to optimise usage, or how to use wealth not just for survival, but as an unlock for a bigger life.

As a licensed investment advisor (Series 65) and CFP® candidate through UC Berkeley, she has the technical depth to understand financial systems at a sophisticated level. What sets her apart as an educator is her ability to make that complexity feel accessible, relevant, and even exciting.

Uma is a dedicated member of the Seattle community and serves on the boards of the Suzuki Institute of Seattle and Lighthouse Montessori. She believes financial literacy is not a subject to be studied in adulthood. It is a mindset to be built in childhood.
